Virtual Wellness Consultation

If you have concerns about your child’s speech or feeding but can’t make it in for an evaluation, a virtual wellness consultation may be perfect for you. Together, we can assess how your child is currently doing, then discuss strategies to improve their abilities.

Intensive Treatment

Depending on your child’s needs, an intensive treatment approach maybe the most effective to helping your child advance. Intensive treatment sessions are tailored to the child’s needs and ability. A typical design would be a certain amount of therapy minutes or hours (depending on what your child has the endurance to tolerate) per day for 1 to 2 weeks.  Please contact me in order to discuss your child and design an intensive treatment session that would be the most effective for your child’s needs and abilities.

About Me

Bridget Schumaker

Speech Therapist

I am a speech language pathologist and I have worked in pediatrics for more than 10 years. I have a passion for teaching parents the best strategies and ways to assist the child in his or her development. I enjoy watching parents become the best "therapist" for their child. What I do during a session doesn't matter if there's no carry over by the parents across all environments. You are the expert on your child and I appreciate all the information you bring about your child and I look forward to giving more strategies and tips to continue your child along the developmental path.

Billing

I am able to accept cash/checks, credit, debit, FSA or HSA cards. You are able to enter card information securely online during the intake process. No-shows and cancelations within 24 hours of your appointment time will be charged at the full rate unless your child is sick or other extenuating circumstances exist. I do not accept insurance; however, I will provide a detailed invoice you may submit to your insurance if desired. If your insurance offers reimbursement for out-of-network services, you may need a physicians referral. Please reach out to your insurance provider to see what is needed if you wish to seek reimbursement per your benefit plan. I will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of therapy for your child after we discuss your child’s needs.

What is a Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act that went into effect January 1, 2022, health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.  For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Philosophy of Therapy

My philosophy for treatment is a whole child approach. I often say if the feet don’t work well, the mouth won’t be able to either. By looking at the whole child, I strive to address the underlying factors that affect feeding and speech and language development so that improvements that are made are long-lasting and permanent in the child’s life as they develop and change towards adulthood. I enjoy working closely with other disciplines especially with physical and occupational therapy to ensure all the child’s needs are being addressed.

My philosophy is shaped by my background in Neuro Development Treatment (NDT) and Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) treatment. Being certified in both these treatment approaches, my feeding strategies and philosophy combine both oral motor and sensory strategies to advance a child’s feeding skills. While keeping therapy fun and engaging, children are able to learn and advance their skills to ensure that those skills transfer across all environments that the child may encounter.

Another tool I am pleased to bring to a child’s therapy is neuromuscular electrical stimulation. The use of a VitalStim unit during feeding therapy can assist with the activation and recruitment of muscles to assist with feeding and swallowing in your child to ensure that your child is recruiting all the muscular activity he or she has the ability to use.
